Award winning author Priya Kumari visited Hudson Montessori School to read her upcoming book, “Leaf Talks Peace,” on March 8, 2022. With what the world is facing right now, we are reminded more than ever of the importance of teaching the principles of harmony and compassion to our students so that they can practice emotional hygiene too.
Her book, “Leaf Talks Peace,” is the first picture book by an Indian author endorsed by The Dalai Lama. It includes a written message from the Dalai Lama in the book's foreword. It spreads the Buddha's message of living in harmony with nature and with all forms of life. The book aims to raise mindful, compassionate, and cooperative global citizens.
Our Montessori curriculum focuses heavily on Peace Education at all ages. Peace Education aims to equip students with the interpersonal skills needed to be a good member of a thriving community. Dr. Maria Montessori believed teaching children about non-violence and conflict resolution helps prevent tragedies like war and poverty.
“It can really help children understand their global responsibility at an early age, so they create a better world where people from all cultures, genders, colors, and ethnicities are respected and everyone lives in harmony with nature,” said Ms. Kumari.

Other ways that the school addresses peace, especially now during the distressful global climate, the school’s art teacher Ms. Nicole is working on school-wide art projects based on the peace theme. Our Upper Elementary students also have a music video in the works, planning to perform "Back to the Earth," reminding us of the importance of earthly harmony.
