After School Enrichment

Hudson Montessori offers several After School Enrichment Programs comprised of a variety of extracurricular classes offered throughout the week for the convenience of our school’s parents and children. A number of these programs are run by outside organizations for an additional fee. In addition, there is a one-time annual Registration Fee of $25.00. The After School Enrichment Programs are optional and separate from the Extended Day Program.

Chess


Your children will be coached by an internationally renowned master who has won many championships and titles. She is a highly experienced teacher, bringing fun and laughter to Chess. Math Olympiads


Class Highlights: - Students will focus on middle school math Olympiad topics - 60 minute class will be dedicated to solving challenging math problems such as number theory, combinatorics and probability, logic puzzles, “trains and clocks”, “moles digging holes”, cryptorithms, and challenging 2D and 3D geometry. - Participation in Continental Math League and AMC 8 will be optional starting in November. LEGO® Engineering (Bricks 4 Kidz)


Bricks 4 Kidz LEGO® Engineering classes explore architecture, engineering and technology. Students build a new project each week using LEGO® bricks and elements. The class provides a fun, hands-on learning and building experience focused on STEM concepts. The goal of this course is to provide a learning experience for children that encourages critical thinking, creativity, organizational skills, problem-solving, and teamwork. Whiz Kidz Science Club


BEST HANDS-ON SCIENCE PROGRAM!!! Whiz Kidz Inc. is excited to present in-person science club for ages 7-12. Kids will indulge in the process of learning by doing physical science experiments! A well-trained, experienced instructor will conduct the sessions to interact and guide the students. Join Us if you love to create and play with slime! Knitting & Crochet Workshop


Handcrafting textiles is an amazing work of art with many benefits. Your child will learn valuable life skills that will foster a great sense of accomplishment and build confidence and perseverance. We will introduce them to the basic skills and standard patterns of knitting and crochet, as well as basic sewing skills in an easy and fun way. Handcrafting gives children an opportunity for self-expression that is more approachable, authentic and sustainable than other art forms. It takes commitment and resilience both to master and to complete projects. We teach children that they can achieve great things, if they take them one step at a time. Surati: The Magic of Indian Dance, Music & Storytelling


Children are introduced to different movements, sounds, instruments, mythological tales, hand props, the fundamentals of Indian classical/folk techniques, hand gestures, postures, expressions and balance thus exposing them to the wide spectrum of performing arts with particular focus on the music, drama and movement techniques rooted in India. Students are exposed to a range of Indian dance styles, covering genres of classical, folk and Bollywood. The course is taught based on each child’s ability to learn, grow and express themselves. The aim is to instill a deep love for learning and respect for the performing arts. Ballet - Contemporary


Vaydra Alexander attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for performing arts & music and arts in New York City. She was given extensive training in Ballet, Contemporary and Modern (Marth Graham technique), as well as Nutrition and anatomy. She also trained at Ballet Hispanico where she learned Flamenco, Brazilian, African and a variety of cultural dance forms. She studies a variety of dance styles that include Hip-Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Belly Dance, Salsa, and is a certified Zumba instructor. She has performed in various theater productions and off broadway shows. She has worked with a number of performers and vocal artists as their Dance Choreographer. She has been featured in various films and TV productions including most recent "In the Heights." This class will cover a mix of beginner ballet barre moves, across the floor, and stretch movements for flexibility. The focus will be on coordination, musicality and rhythm, introduction in creative and imaginative ways. Students will gain knowledge of terminology, alignment and flexibility; providing them with the foundation of ballet and contemporary movements. Code Club


Students in Code Club will use Scratch, a tile based visual programming software designed and maintained by the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab. Students will create and share their own interactive stories, animations, games, music and art. Programming concepts will first be introduced using unplugged interactions after which the students will apply the concepts using Scratch. As they explore Scratch, they will also learn to think creatively, work collaboratively and reason systematically. The program is conducted by Ms. Michelle and Ms. Grace, our Science & Technology teachers. Spanish

Children will enjoy Spanish in our foreign language environment in an interactive way. They will be actively engaged, motivated and challenged. Yoga


With Ilsi Molina Yoga, children are encouraged to “play” yoga and experience how their breath and body move together in a fun-filled way! Teaching yoga to children provides children with a variety of tools that they can take away from the class and use throughout their lives. Animals, nature and other objects come alive in our classes; as we move, we learn to stretch our bodies in new creative ways. Through yoga poses, games, activities, music and stories, we promote strength, flexibility, coordination, and body awareness. Breathing and visualization techniques teach focus, relaxation and self-control. The program also promotes inner-strength, confidence and self-esteem; a feeling of well-being and respect for others; and, love for one’s self, inside and out. Ms. Ilsi is a Karma Kids Yoga Certified Children’s Yoga Teacher. She is also certified by the United States Gymnastics Association. Surati: Introduction to Indian Choreographed Dance


Children learn the fundamentals and intricacies of traditional and contemporary dance techniques, coordination, balance along with a choreographed dance to music. Choreography may be based on one song or medley of Indian music ranging in genre from classical, folk to contemporary/popular/Bollywood.
