Our Middle School students recently took an inspiring trip to Brookfield Place to explore this year's Canstruction exhibition. Canstruction is an annual design competition where architects, engineers, and contractors create large-scale sculptures made entirely from unopened cans of local families facing food insecurity.
During the visit, students were captivated by the creativity and engineering that went into each sculpture. They observed how thousands of cans could be transformed into detailed designs using invention and imagination. As part of their math and science studies, students estimated volume, considered structural stability, and discussed how many people each sculpture could help feed once donated.
The event also offered opportunities to dive deeper, including watching portions of the live build and exploring educational materials created for young learners. This field trip was a powerful reminder of the importance of giving back. Our students returned energized, inspired, and ready to make a difference.
