Our Special Events
Our rich calendar of special events brings the school community to life, creating memorable moments that complement and enhance the academic year. We offer many school-wide events, including the Book Fair, Social Studies Fair, and Year-End Celebration, as well as dozens of additional events tailored to specific age groups, such as the Montessori Model United Nations and age-specific field trips. Here are a few highlights from our major annual events:

Welcome Breakfast
The Parent Welcome Breakfast is a special tradition that brings together new and returning families to celebrate the start of the school year. While children settle into their classrooms, parents have the chance to connect with one another, meeting for the first time or reconnecting after time apart. Co-hosted by the school and the Hudson Montessori Volunteers, the event highlights the many exciting activities planned for the year ahead. With its warm atmosphere and sense of community, the breakfast sets a positive and welcoming tone for the year to come.
Book Fair
The annual Hudson Montessori Book Fair is a weeklong celebration of literature, learning, and community. Held in the Multipurpose Room, the space is transformed into a colorful showcase of books from a wide range of genres, offering everything from picture books for young readers to engaging novels for older students. The event is made possible through the dedication of parent volunteers who help with everything from restocking shelves to managing sales, as well as parents who encourage their children’s love of reading and support classroom libraries through Teacher Wishlists. More than just an opportunity to purchase books, the Book Fair fosters “bookjoy” in students of all ages and strengthens the sense of community within the school.

Day in the Life of the Hudson River
Each year, Hudson Montessori students take part in the annual Day in the Life of the Hudson River, a hands-on science program that engages schools and organizations across the region in studying the river and harbor ecosystem. Guided by their teachers, students use tools such as thermometers, water quality test kits, and nets to collect data on the species and conditions of the Hudson River Estuary. Their observations contribute to a larger scientific effort, joining information gathered by participants at dozens of sites along the river and New York Harbor. Hosted by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and its partners, the program gives students the chance to act as scientists while deepening their understanding of the environment. This meaningful experience reflects Hudson Montessori’s commitment to taking learning beyond the classroom and connecting students to the world around them.
Hudson Montessori’s annual Code Night is a much-anticipated event that brings students together to explore the exciting world of computer science. As part of the international Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week, children engage in hands-on activities that spark creativity and curiosity while building important skills for the future. Spread across multiple interactive rooms, the event features opportunities to experiment with programming languages, robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and even DNA sequencing. Students also share their knowledge through TED-style talks, creating a dynamic environment of peer-to-peer learning and inspiration. Now in its ninth year, Code Night reflects Hudson Montessori’s strong commitment to STEAM education and highlights the school’s distinction as the first STEM-certified campus in New Jersey. More than just an evening of coding, it is a celebration of progress in computer science and a chance for students to experience the joy of discovery through innovation and collaboration.

Holiday Cheer
Hudson Montessori’s annual Holiday Cheer event brings together families, students, and staff to celebrate the season with music, tradition, and community spirit. Students delight the audience with festive performances, singing holiday classics and special selections that fill the room with joy. Following the concert, elementary students spread cheer by caroling through the school, and the event ends with a special visit from Santa. Beyond the performances, the event reflects the school’s commitment to giving back, with families contributing to local causes to support those in need in Jersey City. Holiday Cheer is both a joyful celebration and a meaningful reminder of the power of community during the holiday season.
Three-in-One Event
Hudson Montessori’s annual Three-in-One Event is a beloved tradition that brings the entire school community together for a morning of learning, creativity, and connection. Families join their children in the classroom for Bring Your Parent to School Day, where students take the lead as “teachers,” guiding their parents through specially prepared work plans and activities. The day continues with the Pancake Breakfast, a warm and lively fundraiser where families enjoy delicious pancakes made by parent volunteers while supporting school enrichment programs. The highlight of the event is the School Maker Faire, the only elementary Maker Faire in the region, where students showcase innovative STEAM projects in areas such as robotics, coding, engineering, and science. This unique event not only celebrates student creativity and achievement but also reflects Hudson Montessori’s distinction as New Jersey’s first STEM-certified campus. Together, the three experiences create a joyful celebration of learning and community.

Art Show
Hudson Montessori’s annual Art Show is a vibrant celebration of creativity, featuring artwork from students ranging from age two through Middle School. Curated by our art education specialist, the event highlights the imagination, talent, and hard work of our young artists. As a nationally certified STEM school, Hudson Montessori proudly embraces the “A” in STEAM, recognizing that artistic thinking is an essential part of innovation and problem-solving. Through art, students learn to design, prototype, and bring ideas to life—skills that enhance their work in science, technology, engineering, and math. The Art Show is not only a showcase of student achievement but also a joyful reminder of the importance of creativity in education, made possible through the dedication of our students, staff, and parent volunteers.
Social Studies Fair
Hudson Montessori’s annual Social Studies Fair and Street Carnival is a lively community celebration that brings learning to life. Inside the school, classrooms are transformed into galleries with exhibits on topics related to our annual school-wide learning theme. Outside, Regent Street is filled with festive activities, including food trucks, bouncy houses, entertainers, arts and crafts, and music. Families can also take part in the Museum Quest Game, encouraging children to explore every gallery while supporting local humanitarian charities. Free and open to the public, the event blends education, creativity, and fun, making it a joyful experience for all ages.

Year End Celebration
Each year, Hudson Montessori School proudly hosts its Year End Celebration, a joyful and dynamic event where students from Bridge Primary through Middle School share their talents with families and guests. Now in its 16th year, this much-anticipated afternoon showcases the creativity and energy of our students through music, movement, and artistic expression. Rooted in our unique, theme-based curriculum, the celebration highlights the culmination of a year of immersive learning. In addition to lively performances, the event features the unveiling of collaborative classroom art pieces, which will be auctioned to support school programs. The Year End Celebration is a vibrant reflection of our students’ growth, imagination, and the strong sense of community that defines Hudson Montessori School.
