Greetings From Camp Speers in the Poconos

Students from the fourth and fifth grade class in the Upper Elementary Program recently enjoyed three days at Camp Speers in Dingsmans Ferry in the Pocono Mountains. While they demonstrated how they embody the four key core values of the camp: responsibility, respect, caring, and honesty.

Thirty-two children, their teachers, and parent chaperones learned how to shoot a bow and arrow, navigating canoes on the lake, played many rounds of Gaga ball, basketball, soccer, and also survival skills like building a shelter. The students visited the farm, searched the chicken coop for eggs, hiked a bog trail, and learned how to rock climb. Events culminated with a dance party, team games, and a scavenger hunt.

Girls and boys went to their separate cabins at the end of the day, telling ghost stories, acting out skits, while curled up in sleeping bags. Teamwork, collaboration, and bonding were the ultimate result with a lot of memories made and friendships strengthened.

Hudson Montessori School uses an interdisciplinary, theme-based learning approach to education, the Montessori philosophy and methodology, and fosters the love of learning for children aged 2 to eighth grade.
