Hudson Montessori Hosts Holiday Drive for Foster Children

Our school chooses a worthy cause to focus on and support through the holiday season. Nearly a half-million youth enter the foster care system in the U.S. each year with very little more than the clothes they're wearing and a trash bag filled with stuff.

This year we are partnering with Comfort Cases, an organization striving to give foster youth backpacks and belongings to call their own. Hudson Montessori School has purchased and donated 100 new backpacks and the Hudson Montessori Volunteers have purchased and donated 20. Each of our 12 classrooms will get 10 empty backpacks!

We are asking our families to help fill the backpacks for each classroom. We do not need any more backpacks, we need items to fill them!

Items Needed:

  • Toiletries: toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, soap, lotion, feminine care products, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, shavers, shaving cream, wipes, diapers, scrunchies, hairbrushes, bandaids, and hand sanitizer

  • Individually wrapped snack foods, pouches, and baby food

  • Onesies, PJs, socks, new baby blankets, bibs, and washcloths

  • New teddy bears (12" and smaller), new children's books, writing journals, pens, pencils. etc.

Families can drop off donation items in your child's classroom from Monday, November 29, to Monday, December 13, 2021.

On Friday, December 17, our school's parent volunteers will be dropping off the filled backpacks to Blessed to Bless, a local non-profit group that is coordinating with Comfort Cases, the lead non-profit organization that runs this donation drive in all 50 states. All of the Comfort Cases we make will be routed to families in Hudson County's Department of Children and Families system.
