Hudson Montessori School Looks Back at 2021 and Blazes Ahead in 2022

The start of the New Year is a good time to reflect on the highlights from the past year and all the exciting opportunities to come—namely adding a Middle School to our ever-expanding school. In September 2022, our school will serve toddlers up through eighth graders. Enrollment has already begun for the 2022-2023 year.

In September, we launched the school-wide theme for the school year: The Power of Nature. The theme connects all the classrooms from toddlers to elementary. Each classroom uniquely explores how to look to nature for inspiration and solutions through special lessons and projects woven in their curriculum. Although our students are diving deep into nature this year, science and nature are always hot topics at our school, New Jersey’s first nationally STEM-certified campus.

Adding even more exciting prospects to its already robust scientific studies at the Hudson River and Liberty State Park Nature Center, the school’s STEAM Program joined the efforts of the Billion Oyster Project based at Governor’s Island.

Looking ahead to what 2022 has in store, students as young as Kindergarten up through Upper Elementary eagerly await to present their work at this year’s virtual Maker Faire on January 29, 2022. It will feature our student’s innovative projects focused on art, robotics and coding, science, and engineering. We are proud to be a School Maker Faire member—the only school in New Jersey—for four years in a row!

The Upper Elementary student delegation is prepared to attend the Montessori Model United Nations four-day conference in Manhattan beginning on February 16, 2022. Upper Elementary students prepare for months to serve as delegates for an assigned country, diving into world issues through the eyes of that country’s citizens. The students develop a grasp of each country’s government, standing policies, and culture and serve alongside other students to discuss points and draft resolutions—much like the United Nations.

Finally, closing out the school year, the entire school comes together to assemble the Social Studies Fair and Year End Celebration, bringing the Power of Nature theme full circle as it is infused throughout both culminating events.
