Hudson Montessori School is proud to announce that Middle School math teacher, Vidya Menon, was recently recognized by the Mathematical Association of America (MMA) for Distinguished Mathematics Teaching. Ms. Vidya was one of only 26 middle and high school teachers nationwide to earn the 2025 Edyth May Sliffe distinction, which honors teachers who cultivate the next generation of mathematical thinkers.
More than 240 students, parents, education colleagues, and administrators nominated teachers for these awards for the 2024-2025 school year.
According to the MMA, “These awards recognize exceptional middle and high school mathematics teachers who inspire and motivate their students in mathematics through participation in the American Mathematics Competitions.” Hudson Montessori School has competed in the AMC since establishing its Middle School four years ago.
Each year, approximately 300,000 middle and high school students from more than 5,000 schools worldwide participate in the MAA AMC. The MAA AMC develops creative problem-solving skills and exposes students to a side of mathematics not often seen in standard classroom curricula.
Hudson Montessori School, located in downtown Jersey City, serves children from ages 2 through 8th grade. The teachers use an interdisciplinary, theme-based learning approach grounded in Montessori philosophy and methodology to foster students' love of learning. Its STEM-certified campus is the only one of its kind in New Jersey, featuring STEM-certified teachers who meet the highest standards set by the National Institute for STEM Education. The school welcomes parents to an open house to learn more about its programs.
