May 11, 2023: 24-Hour Fundraiser to Support Jersey City’s Butterfly and Bee Population

Urbanization wreaks havoc on our local ecosystem, but you can be a part of bringing a new green space to Jersey City that supports our local bees and butterflies. The Middle School students from Hudson Montessori School are hosting a 24-hour fundraiser on Thursday, May 11, 2023, to create a pollinator garden.

The goal is $500 to purchase over 800 plants, including garden phlox for the swallowtail butterflies, a mix of milkweeds for monarchs, wild sunflowers for bees, and more.

This project is made possible through a partnership with the Hudson County Chapter of the New Jersey Native Plant Society. The Hudson County Chapter will support 12 new pollinator gardens this year, including ours. This effort is one piece of their mission to restore vital native plant habitats and preserve wildlife diversity within the county.

Join us in supporting our Middle School’s Innovative Community Outreach Project (ICOP). The Middle Schooler’s project started on September 14, 2022, when the students met with Mayor Steven Fulop and Councilman James Solomon on the first days of the school year to understand better the needs of Jersey City and how our students could make a change for our city.

This collaborative project and fundraiser results from the student’s research and efforts to make a change for the community. To donate, click here. For more details about how our students got involved and how this project will directly impact Jersey City: https://youtu.be/ra5lq5TQGXU
