Hudson Montessori School students are preparing to take part in the upcoming Future City Competition, an exciting STEM challenge that asks students to design cities of the future. This year, 18 students in grades 6–8 will participate across three teams: Cyber Shock, Arvum, and From the Ground Up.
This year’s Future City theme, Farm to Table, invites students to rethink how food moves through a city and how waste can be reduced along the way. With nearly 40 percent of food produced worldwide going to waste, students are undertaking the challenge to design a city that eliminates food waste from farm to table while keeping citizens healthy. Using circular economy principles, teams will explore ideas like reusing food scraps, creating sustainable packaging, and turning waste into compost or energy.
Our teams are supported by Future City coaches Ms. Vidya and Dr. Grace, along with mentors Ms. Michelle, parent volunteers, and a Hudson Montessori School alum. Special thanks to our parents who generously volunteered their time to share expertise, guidance, and thoughtful feedback throughout the process.
We are excited to see our students collaborate, innovate, and bring their city designs to life as they represent Hudson Montessori School at Future City.
Hudson Montessori School, located in downtown Jersey City, serves children aged 2 to 8th grade. The teachers use an interdisciplinary, theme-based learning approach grounded in the Montessori philosophy and methodology to foster a love of learning in their students. Its STEM-certified campus is the only one of its kind in New Jersey, featuring STEM-certified teachers who meet the highest standards set by the National Institute for STEM Education. The school welcomes parents to attend an open house to learn more about the school's programs.
