Hudson Montessori Students Celebrate the Lunar New Year and Cultural Events Around the World

This week, our school community celebrated the Lunar New Year and explored a beautiful tapestry of global traditions. Students learned about Lunar New Year traditions like family gatherings, symbolic foods, and wishes for good fortune. Parents brought these traditions to life by reading stories, guiding crafts, and sharing what the Lunar New Year means to them. Each year, these fun-filled visits provide our students with memorable learning experiences that deepen their understanding of their friends and neighbors.

Our teachers also shared celebrations such as Mardi Gras and the seasons of Lent, Ramadan, and Eid al-Fitr. Through these discussions, they connected common themes across cultures and what we all celebrate in different ways: reflection, generosity, and connecting with your community.

One of the most valued and unique facets of Montessori education is cultural competence and the development of respect for cultures around the globe. Students at every age level study geography, botany, zoology, and the traditions of countries worldwide. Teachers intentionally fill their classrooms with multicultural posters, books, and media. Parents from all cultural backgrounds visit the classroom to teach traditions, read books, share food, or guide special art projects.

Thank you to our parents who joined us this week for these meaningful celebrations!
