Fifty-five of our Upper Elementary and Middle School student delegates are heading to Manhattan this week to participate in the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN), one of the most meaningful and transformative experiences we offer our older students. The opening ceremonies held at the United Nations General Assembly will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the MMUN program, marking two decades of empowering youth through peace education and diplomacy. Hudson Montessori School is sending one of the largest delegations to the conference.
Since the start of the school year, each delegate has been preparing for this conference. MMUN is an immersive academic program in which students are assigned a country to represent. Our delegates spend months researching their assigned country’s history, culture, government, global relationships, and most pressing social justice issues. Through this process, they develop global awareness, a nuanced understanding of perspectives beyond their own, and tap into their ability to empathize.
As international delegates, students write position papers, collaborate on resolutions, and engage in thoughtful debate while advocating on behalf of their assigned nation. They learn to speak with confidence, listen with intention, and work toward consensus with peers from around the world.
We are incredibly proud of their dedication and cannot wait to watch them present, debate, and shine on the global stage. We know this experience will leave a lasting impression, strengthening their voices, broadening their worldview, and inspiring them long after the conference ends.
Hudson Montessori School, located in downtown Jersey City, serves children from ages 2 through 8th grade. The teachers use an interdisciplinary, theme-based learning approach grounded in Montessori philosophy and methodology to foster students' love of learning. Its STEM-certified campus is the only one of its kind in New Jersey, featuring STEM-certified teachers who meet the highest standards set by the National Institute for STEM Education. The school welcomes parents to an open house to learn more about its programs.
