Hudson Montessori students delivered an outstanding performance at this year’s Mathcounts chapter competition, placing 8th out of 29 schools. We spotlight Michael Blum, who ranked 8th among more than 250 contestants in the Chapter Round and advanced to the prestigious Final Countdown Round, a distinction earned by only the top 10 competitors. We congratulate every student who represented our school!
The MATHCOUNTS Competition challenges students with problems in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability, and more. It is regarded as one of the nation’s most effective and rigorous STEM programs for middle schoolers. The MATHCOUNTS contest has four levels—school, chapter, state, and national—and includes four rounds: Sprint, Target, Team, and Countdown, lasting approximately three hours. The top 10 scorers in our school round advanced to the chapter level.
At Hudson Montessori, we offer an after-school math competition elective for students interested in participating in MATHCOUNTS, the American Mathematical Competition, and MOEMS. Our school recognizes that competition is part of life, especially in the STEM field. Building on our historically non-competitive Montessori background, our school encourages students to try everything, including competition and collaboration with peers and schools in our community.Â
Our students have worked hard to prepare for this competition, and their achievement reflects their perseverance, commitment, and strong problem-solving skills. The Montessori philosophy teaches children that the most important kind of competition is competition with oneself. By focusing on mastery and self-correction, students deepen their learning and broaden their understanding. Our young scholars overcome obstacles to excel, bringing home awards from competitions throughout the region and beyond.
