Summer Camp Session 1 Kicks Off A Fantastic Start to Summer

From engineering challenges and coding to nature walks, ocean discoveries, gardening experiments, music, art, and outdoor play, our campers have already packed an incredible amount of learning into their first week of Summer Camp. Our campers jumped into hands-on learning, creative projects, outdoor adventures, and new friendships as they settled into another exciting summer at Hudson Montessori.

Toddler Camp: Discovering My World

Our youngest campers had a wonderful first week as they settled into their new summer routines and began exploring this session's ocean theme.

The children expressed their creativity by decorating colorful paper-plate seashells and painting a variety of fish with paint sticks. They also enjoyed spending plenty of time outdoors, taking advantage of the beautiful summer weather while building friendships and confidence in their new environment.

Next week, our toddlers will begin creating their own ocean dioramas, bringing imaginative underwater worlds to life through hands-on art and exploration.

Primary Camp: Grow It, Build It, Catch It

Our Primary campers kicked off the summer with an exciting investigation into how plants grow. Throughout the week, children explored the life cycle of plants while asking thoughtful questions and participating in hands-on science activities.

Campers planted bean seeds that will soon be transferred into soil after sprouting, experimented with white flowers placed in colored water to observe how plants absorb water, and worked together to plant seeds in an outdoor planter that they'll continue to observe throughout the session.

Children transformed extra seeds into homemade sound jars, discovering that different amounts of seeds produced unique sounds, and they produced their own classroom music festival. To finish the week, they enjoyed a popcorn party while learning that popcorn kernels are seeds, too, and used a variety of seeds to create beautiful mosaic artwork.

Elementary Maker's Camp: Games People Play

Using the Engineering Design Process, our Elementary STEAM Makers' Campers worked in teams to design and build an elaborate miniature golf course from recycled materials, including cardboard, paper towel rolls, and hula hoops, into one giant course for everyone to enjoy.

Specialty classes explored games through different subjects. Campers strengthened their chess strategies, learned the names of popular games and action verbs in Spanish, created musical rhythm games, began designing original board games in art, and used coding to program Microbits to display messages and play music.

Campers also cooled off in our rooftop pool, played basketball at the indoor basketball court, and wrapped up the week with a nature walk through Liberty State Park. Along the way, they spotted deer, fawns, a black-crowned night heron, horseshoe crabs, and other fascinating wildlife before enjoying lunch and playground time together.

It’s not too late to join the fun! Registration is still open for Summer Camp Sessions 2 and 3, where campers will continue exploring exciting themes through hands-on STEAM projects, outdoor adventures, swimming, creative arts, and Montessori-inspired learning.
