Hudson Montessori School’s Upper Elementary students are partnering with Welcome Home Jersey City to collect coats for refugees beginning Thursday, October 7. This coat drive is one of several community service initiatives our students are participating in as part of their Montessori Model United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These Sustainable Development Goals were global goals set by the United Nations as a blueprint for peace and security for all people on our planet. Each year, the Upper Elementary students serve as United Nations delegates, proposing actions and performing community service where appropriate.
Welcome Home Jersey City is an organization committed to providing educational, employment, and material support to refugees and people seeking asylum in the Jersey City area. The need for new or gently used coats and other winter outerwear in all sizes has grown tremendously as nations around the globe experience increasing unrest and the cold winter months draw nearer.
Large grey collection bins will remain outside of the Comet classroom on 30 Regent Street through Friday, October 15. Please consider donating during school arrival, lunch, and dismissal times: 7:45 to 9 a.m., 12 to 12:30 p.m., and 3 to 3:15 p.m. If you miss dropoff at our school, please drop off coats and winter outerwear on October 16 directly at the coat drive collection point: 140 Sip Avenue, Jersey City, NJ from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
