We are proud to share that Dr. Grace Sanvictores and Michelle Velho received the 2026 Brunschwig-Karplus Award for Excellence in STEM Teaching and Community Leadership from STEMTeachersNYC.
This award recognizes educators who demonstrate exceptional STEM teaching and their contributions to their professional community. Dr. Sanvictores and Michelle Velho were honored for their energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to supporting educators and to building vibrant learning communities.
Their recognition also reflects the strength of the STEAM program at Hudson Montessori School. Hudson Montessori is the first—and currently the only—STEM-certified school campus in New Jersey recognized by the National Institute for STEM Education. Our curriculum integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM). Through project-based learning and hands-on exploration, students engage deeply with these subjects in and beyond the classroom. Students regularly participate in STEM competitions and showcases, collaborate with peers, and apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.
Congratulations to Dr. Sanvictores and Michelle Velho on this well-deserved recognition. We are grateful for the passion and leadership they bring to our students and to the broader STEM education community.
Hudson Montessori School, located in downtown Jersey City, serves children from ages 2 through 8th grade. The teachers use an interdisciplinary, theme-based learning approach grounded in Montessori philosophy and methodology to foster students' love of learning. Its STEM-certified campus is the only one of its kind in New Jersey, featuring STEM-certified teachers who meet the highest standards set by the National Institute for STEM Education. The school welcomes parents to an open house to learn more about its programs.
